Race to the Stones

Two Striders took on the 100km (62 mile) event known as ‘Race to the Stones’ which starts in Oxfordshire and finishing at Avebury Stone Circle in Wiltshire. Jenny Ingram-Tedd and Victoria McIver crossed the finishing line together in the middle of the night (early hours of Sunday morning). A massive congratulations from everybody at the club as they completed this challenge for charity, Cancer Research UK.

 

Midweek League ‘Mob Match’

On Thursday twenty-eight Stevenage Striders took part in the final race of the midweek league 10K season. This was a non-scoring event where all clubs across all three divisions are invited to take part. At the event there were presentations to winning teams and individuals for each division. First Strider home was the ever-consistent Steve Wells in 40:09. He was followed by Kenny Arnold and Stuart Cuzner in 49:12 and 49:20 respectively. Over the four scoring races Steve Wells and Esperanza Castro were superbly consistent and competitive in their age categories. They were rewarded by runners up trophies, Steve Wells in the male veteran 50 category and Esperanza Castro in the female veteran 55 category. Olympic Park 10km

Fiona Davies took part in the 10km Chase the Sun event at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on Wednesday 10th July organised by RunThrough. Fiona completed the course in 56-16, finishing 210th out of 317th.

This week’s dose of Parkruns

The 5km (3.1 mile) free-event for all took place on Saturday morning and a few Striders were out in force.

Stevenage: 421 runners took part in the two-lap course at Fairlands Valley lakes. Most noticeable results at where that three Striders were having a daddy-daughter buggy race. Davie Stafford finished in 21-12 (15th), Ollie Garbas 22-47 (44th) and Danik Bates 25-13 (104th). Danik and Ollie were also dressed up in costumes.

International Parkrun: Thirty-two runners took on the course at Koszalin, not too far off the Baltic Sea in Northern Poland. Ian McClements finished in 29-33 (29th) and Dorota Adamczyk in 41-15 (31st).

Cambridge: Steve Wells 18-46 (11th out of 420 runners).

Felixstowe (Suffolk): Jordan Warner 22-32 (32nd out of 238 runners).

Panshanger (Hertford, Herts): Alan Watt 24-19 (81st out of 440 runners) and Fiona Davis 27-25 (162nd).

Letchworth (Herts): Ken Marshall 28-02 (58th out of 154 runners).

South Shields (Up North): Garry Wallace 28-14 (151st out of 272 runners) and Louise Chancellor 29-15 (166th).

Sizewell (Suffolk): Colin Fenwick 32-19 (61st out of 94 runners).
