Stevenage Striders Press Release – 22nd July 2019

Fairlands Valley Challenge

A few Striders were out in force to tackle the Fairlands Valley Challenge, where there were various distances to choose from ranging from half-marathon, 18 miles, marathon and ultra-marathon, which started and finished from Stevenage and headed towards Watton-at-Stone, Chapmore End, Stapleford, Tewin and Datchworth. All runners had to use a set of instructions to guide them along the route (which isn’t marshalled) and tackled various terrains such as hard mud paths, going through fields, dashing through woodlands and a few hilly country lanes.

In the Marathon distance, Danik Bates despite having an excellent start had a reoccurring glute injury come back to haunt him but somehow managed to grab fourth place in a time of 04-55-53. Chris and Sue Leigh ran around together to finish in a time of 06-00-34.

In the 18-mile event, Fiona Davies completed the distance in 04-03-07 whilst Brendon Kelly and Peter Kelly finished the half marathon (awaiting results).

Standard Chartered Great City Race

On Tuesday 16th July, Fiona Davies took on the 5km distance at the Standard Chartered Great City Race in London and completed the course in 26-57.
