Tom Sclanders gets a PB at Bedford Running Festival while the Striders turn up in force.
A lot of the red diamonds were out in force over the county border in Bedford for the annual running festival at Priory Park. There were various events such as the half-marathon, 10km and 5km. Some of the Striders choose to run more than one event over the two days at the weekend.
Half-Marathon: Tom Sclanders achieved a personal best at this distance at 01-34-28, finishing 199th out of 2514 runners. Other results: Phil Deaves 01-58-57 (1035th). Linda Howell – 2:29.

Down the A1 at Hendon, North London, a few Striders took on the 10km course near the RAF museum. Peter Monk 51-36 (125th out of 602 runners). Jennifer Graham 01-22-53
Clare and Davie back on the marathon trail
The Strider couple were back on the long-distance trail again at the weekend. First stop was in Addlestone in Surrey, where they were taking part in the Excalibur 8 marathon hosted by Pheonix Running. Davie was running with a buggy (daughter tagged along) and the pair completed their 11th marathon together in 04-17-22, ninth place. Clare finished the event in 04-41-24.
On Sunday and nearer to home in the Chilterns, the pair completed the Dunstable Downs Challenge. A very hilly course beckoned the pair and both crossed the line in 05-22-40.
Esperanza Castro and Phil Deaves completed the first round of the 5km series in Hatfield. Phil finished in 23-31 (133rd) and Esperanza in 23-59.
The 5km (3.1 mile) free-event for all took place on Saturday morning and there were some Striders out in force, some at Stevenage, some away.
Stevenage: 377 runners took part in the two-lap course at Fairlands Valley lakes.

Tilgate (Crawley, East Sussex). Three hours before boarding a flight from nearby Gatwick Airport, Danik Bates took on the one and a half lap course around the lakes and woodland at Tilgate Park in Crawley. With a nasty hill half way on a very scenic course, Danik completed the event in 22-47 finishing 48th out of 573 runners.

Bevendean Down (Brighton, East Sussex): Gary Sherin took on the very hilly course on the outskirts of Brighton and managed to get a time of 28-53 (24th out of 42 runners).
