Great Eastern Run – Peterborough
It was great sadness that the half-marathon event in Peterborough on Sunday got cancelled so close towards the start time on police advice and the club had many runners taking part in the event. However, the Striders did have runners in the 5Km race. Esperanza Castro continued her good form by finishing 84th and an official 5km PB which now stands at 23-45. Esperanza said after the race: After my marathon in May and helping with 0-5K in July I could only do 29 mins and wondered if I would ever be able to get my time down again. So happy about my result! Other results: Ally Brown 33-58 (366th), Chrissie Thomas 34-00 (367th), Lauren Pegg 35-20 (411th), Dorota Adamczyk 35-30 (420th) and Jessica Wright 40-09 (593rd).
One half-marathon event which did get runners out on the course was the Royal Parks in South-West London. Fiona Davies completed the course in 02-10-30. David Mendonca was also in action and finished in 02-02-33.
Two Striders were in action down near Poole, Dorset, running a 12km (7-mile race) through a national park and on the beach in the area known as Studland. Lisa Liversidge 01-20-08 and Lorraine Wyatt 01-35-25.
The 5km (3.1 mile) free-event for all took place on Saturday morning and there were some Striders out in force, some at Stevenage, some away.
International Parkruns: Three Striders were representing their club and country at Parkruns across Europe this weekend. First off, Danik Bates took on the one-lap course through woodland at the beautiful town of Torun in Northern Poland (between Gdansk and Lodz). Despite leading for the first kilometre or so, it turned into a bad day at the office and crossed the finish line in 22-32, finishing 18th out of 119 runners. In Padua near Venice, Italy, two striders were battling it out in Farfalle parkrun. Garry Wallace finished in 27-11 (17th) and Louise Chancellor in 30-02 (25th). There were 32 runners.
Away days in the UK: Gary Sherin was at Rutland Water and finished in a speedy 25-58, grabbing his fastest time since May. At the Leas in Minster, Kent on the beautiful Isle of Sheppey, the March’s were back on the road. With 151 runners taking part, Darren March finished in 23-05 (15th) and Louise March in 37-30 (116th). Oliver Garbas was doing a recovery run at Letchworth and grabbed a time of 25-37 (29th out of 135 runners). Finally, up north in Hartlepool, Alan Watt finished in 23-48, finishing 44th out of 116 runners.
