Club Standards Awards
Stevenage Striders Club Standards Award Scheme
The scheme’s start date is 1/1/2020.
Aim: to give everybody the opportunity to work towards a ‘standard’ which is based on a performance level for your age i.e. it is age graded using the WAVA/WMA calculator. This is what is used in all ParkRun results for example.
There are 6 tiers to the standards:
The merit standard should realistically be achievable for all members. The subsequent levels require increasing levels of performance and a wider portfolio of running distances completed. Race results need to be submitted to the standards scheme administrator (currently Chris Leigh). Only races with a valid measurement certificate can be considered for any one of the distances below (or are part of a timed track based event). Once a Strider achieves a particular standards level they can move on to the next and so on. The levels ARE NOT reset each year but carried forward from one year to the next e.g. once a Strider achieves the silver standard, they are a Silver Standards holder going forward year on year.
– 5 miles
– 10 miles
– half marathon
– 20 miles
We will include our own 5K and 10K handicap races but not parkruns. Each of the 5K handicaps counts as an event.
Here are the merit/standards awards criteria:
Merit – complete 3 events at 2 different distances with at least one at WAVA/WMA 45% or higher
Club – complete 3 events at 3 different distances with at least one at WAVA/WMA 50% or higher
Bronze – complete 4 events at 3 different distances of which at least one must be at WAVA/WMA 55% or higher
Silver – complete at least five events over at least 3 different distances of which at least 1 must be a minimum of half marathon and 3 of which must be at WAVA/WMA 60% or higher
Gold – complete at least 6 events over at least 4 different distances of which at least one must be a minimum of half marathon and 3 of which must be at WAVA/WMA 65% or higher
Platinum – complete at least seven events including a 5K, 10K, half and full marathon, 4 of which must be at WAVA/WMA 65% or above and at least 1 of which must be WAVA/WMA 70% or above.
Striders who achieve one of the standards above will be presented with a merit certificate and added to the Club Merit Awards roll of honour. This will done through the year as Striders reach the appropriate Standard. More than one Standard can be presented each year to a Strider.
